Our Summer Home Tour 2017

Welcome friends, and thank you for stopping in to check out our home!
I'm thrilled to be part of the 2017 Summer Home Tour hosted by Marty @
A Stroll Thru Life, a big thank you to her for organizing 30 bloggers to share their homes
this week. If you're stopping by from Christy's @ Our Southern Home, I'm sure you
 enjoyed her beautiful home!

If you're new here I live in Denver and share our 1938 cottage style home with
Mr. Simple, our teenage son and spoiled fur babies. Come in and take a peek.

Living Room

I'm still smitten with our blush paint and kept it pretty simple by changing out some
artwork and accessories for summer, and of course, bringing in lots of greenery from
our yard.

I like adding something a little edgy to keep the pink paint from looking too sweet.
The bold tribal pillow with a black leather pattern is perfectly unexpected. I found

I have an addiction to fun chairs and have quite the collection, but always fall back
to bringing these unique cane chairs back in for summer. I love the contrast against the
smooth white campaign chest.

Dining Room

Surprise! I'd mentioned a few times that the green paint in our dining room was fun for
awhile, but I was ready for a change. At certain times of day it looked neon with the bright
southern exposure and I'd walk by and cringe! I chose the same Benjamin Moore Queen Anne,
as I have in the living room and it feels SO much better!

I found the chippendale style chairs on Craigslist awhile back and still haven't
decided whether or not to paint them, which is keeping me from reupholstering the seats.
I love the wood, but wonder if it would be prettier if there were more contrast with
the table. What do you guys think?

These small boxwoods were a steal from Walmart's garden section last summer.
I brought them in for the winter and they're still going strong. I trimmed them up
to get a more topiary form.

My favorite time of day, early evening when the sun is shining through our
french doors the blush paint takes on a pretty glow.

Family Room

I think we should have a challenge - can anyone do a home tour without adding a new
pillow?!! Haha! A super simple pillow change up and that's it for our family room.
One day when I was cruising through Hobby Lobby I noticed the zebra print fabric on the
clearance rack for a crazy price and made the pillows. The blush pillows are from Home Goods
and are the perfect pieces to bring the color into our family room.

We're still big fans of our basics - the IKEA Ektorp sectional, and sisal rug
from World Market.

Thanks again for popping by everyone! Hope you have a fabulous summer!
Next up on the tour is Haneen's Haven, if you don't know her, she has a fun, vibrant
style you'll love. And, if you ever need a laugh to start your day check out her
Instagram Stories - she cracks me up!

My Five Favorites ~ Gadgets I Love

Hi friends, sorry I've been MIA, we've had some fun happenings
around here lately, I'll fill you in on what I've been up to next week. In the meantime,
it's time for another My Five Favorites, this month my pals and I are dishing on our
favorite gadgets. To be honest, I'm not much of a gadget girl, it has to be pretty good to
take up space in my house. I'm anxious to check out my friends' favs.

Jennifer @ Dimples & Tangles

I'm so excited to introduce our guest this month, when I first discovered the world of blogs,
Sarah @ Thrifty Decor Chick was one of the first I read. I couldn't wait for her posts,
she was funny, down to earth, and had awesome DIY skills. I was hooked big time!
All these years later and I still love following along with all the updates to her charming
 home and yard.

Thrifty Decor Chick

Ok, back to the gadgets...

#1 - Apple Peeler/Corer

I've had mine for probably 20 years, it makes baking apple pies super quick and easy, and
it's a fun toy that encourages everyone to help. :)
Mine is heavy duty cast iron from Ace Hardware $23.99, but I recently saw this similar
smaller version at World Market for $9.99

#2 - Clip and Drain

One day while I was in Sur La Table I overheard a lady telling her friend how great this
clip on colander was, after they left I asked the sales person about it and she said they sell a
ton of them. It's not large but she said it worked great even on large stock pots of potatoes or pasta...and it does!!!

#3 - Paint Pouring Spout

I'm a little OCD when it comes to painting, I like all my tools neat and clean. :)
This plastic spout fits on the top of your paint can and keeps the paint from running down
the sides and collecting in the rim at the top of the can.
It cleans up easily, you can find it at Ace Hardware $2.59

See that clean paint free rim!

#4 - Sisal Body Brush

I know this is a stretch for the gadget category, but it's a good one!
My sweet friend has worked at Anthropologie for years, she received this body brush at an
Anthro Favorite Things Christmas Party from another employee.
It can be used wet in the shower or dry before showering, I like to use it dry over my
entire body. It's the best exfoliator and only $10.00 at Anthropologie.
It also makes a great girlfriend gift paired with one of their cleansers.

#5 - Clarisonic

This is probably my all time favorite gadget - I've had it forever, it's one of the originals,
and still works perfectly, I just replace the heads as needed. It always gets rave reviews
online and I'm right in there with 5 stars! Several different options are available now,
 mine was from Nordstrom.

My Five Favorite Paint Projects

Hi friends, this month for we're sharing Paint Projects for My Five Favorites.
The power of paint - it's my favorite way to update just about anything.
It can breathe new life into a room or piece of furniture in no time,
and there's no bigger bang for the buck when it comes to transforming a room.
My blogging buddies are sure to have some inspiring projects to share:

I'm so excited to introduce this month's talented guest, Kristin @ Bliss At Home!
Her keen eye for design and photography are unmatched! She's just moved to a new
home in Connecticut and I'm loving following along as she puts her chic stamp on it.
I'm sure you recognize her outstanding IKEA Billy Library Wall, it's one of my favorite
projects she's done, and I don't know how she could have possibly left it!

Let's get to my favorites...

#1 - Weathered Gray Dresser

A pricey Anthropologie dresser inspired the makeover of this unfinished dresser
my client's dad had made for them. Anthro sells the exact pulls that were on their dresser
allowing us to come very close to the real deal!

#2 - Painted Stone Tile

I still love the fresh look of my painted tile. It went from Tuscan to bright and updated
in my kitchen makeover almost three years ago, and it's held up perfectly!

BEFORE

#3 - Weathered Pedestal Table

My client had this great quality pedestal table in a timeless style, but the golden oak finish
wasn't the look we wanted for her updated kitchen. Arhaus Luca table was our inspiration
for this pretty makeover.

#4 - Black Deck

When it was time to refinish our back deck I loved the idea of a black stain to coordinate
with our white house and black shutters and add some drama to the space.

#5 - Four Poster Bed

We loved the classic styling of my client's four poster bed and knew a fresh coat of
paint would give it new life. We chose a high gloss paint in a light color for a modern
look for the One Room Challenge Master Bedroom Makeover.

My Five Favorite IKEA Items In My Home

These months just fly by, it's already time for another edition of My Five Favorites.
This month we're sharing our favorite IKEA pieces in our homes, and it was tough
narrowing it down. I'm a fan of mixing high and low pieces and IKEA always comes
through with reasonable prices, they're great if you're on a budget or like changing
things up more often. Stop by my blogging friends to check out their favs too:

 Kris @ Driven by Decor
Jennifer @ Dimples & Tangles

Our guest this month is sweet Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality, she's the epitome of
southern charm, has a knack for DIY projects and thrifting, and used IKEA for her new
kitchen! She's been blogging for ten years and has shared life's ups and downs, her
positive attitude is always inspiring. When you pop over to check out her favs don't miss
her Fashion Over 50 series, how cute and stylish is she?!!
One of my favorite projects she's done is this great patio makeover.

On to my IKEA favorites ~
I couldn't help but sneak in a couple extras since they were in the same photo.

#1 - Ektorp Sectional & Pillows

We've had our Ektorp Sectional for a few years now, and still love it. It's held up well and
I don't worry about the light color with the washable slipcovers, they clean up like a dream
when I spill my coffee or a kiddo has messy hands. A couple of my favorite black and
white pillows I use all the time are Stockholm and Lappljung Ruta

#2 - Ritva Curtains

I have Ritva curtains in my living room, dining room and family room and can't count the
number of times I've used them for clients.
 They're 57" wide x 98" or 118" lengths, 100% cotton and have a pretty linen look.
I take mine to a seamstress to have pleats put in to give them a more finished high end look.
It's still a steal, as the panels are only $25/pair, isn't that crazy?!!

#3 - Antifoni Work Lamp

This little lamp is super functional, the arm and head are easily adjustable and
it's great for reading, we have them on our nightstands in the bedroom. I love that
they coordinate with other styles for an eclectic mix and look and feel much more
high end than their $35 price tag.

#4 - Viserum Frame, Arstid Lamp

I helped my friend give her guest room a makeover, we used 24 (5"x7")  Viserum frames
with DIY squiggles to create this statement of grid artwork over the bed for $100.
We also gave the Arstid Wall Lamps a pretty update, tutorial courtesy of this clever blogger!

#5 - Rast Chest, Hovet Mirror

The versatile Rast Chest works perfectly in smaller spaces because of the depth,
but the doesn't sacrifice width and height. The size and storage won me over when
I did a makeover of our master bedroom for the One Room Challenge.  It's a
popular piece to hack too, I chose to cover mine in faux ostrich and and add
vintage hardware, the tutorial is here
The mirror I used has been replaced by the Hovet Mirror which is almost
exactly the same, again I loved the size which gave our small room added depth.

TGIF - The Gems I Found

Happy Friday, friends!

How fun are these floral rain boots from Target!

I'm all for the 'cozy minimalist' philosophy behind this spring home tour.

Love the detail of this quick diy gold corner

I usually show a pretty AFTER pic, but the BEFORE of this kitchen makes
me giggle ~ the remodel is amazing!

Bedroom Refresh with Crane & Canopy

There's nothing like spring to get you in the mood for a refresh around the house, right?
Well, my client happened to find a fabric she fell in love with and wanted to use it as
inspiration for a bedroom refresh. Do you remember the Craigslist Bedroom I did a couple
years ago for the One Room Challenge? That's the one!
We intentionally kept the base pieces in the room neutral so it would be simple to change
up down the road. This time she wanted to incorporate some of her blue and white pottery
collection, and tie it in with the pretty chinoiserie patterned fabric she loved,
which we put on a custom lumbar pillow.
I was so excited when Crane & Canopy reached out to me to try their bedding, I knew
the exact pattern that would pull our room together perfectly!

We love it!
We chose the Crane & Canopy Page Blue reversible duvet cover and shams, both reverse
from white on one side to the navy print on the other. Super easy to change up...next time!
Both feature hidden zipper enclosures and white piping for a tailored finish. Interior ribbons
on the corners keep your duvet in place. And, they're machine washable!

Sometimes I'm hesitant ordering online because I really like to feel everything, haha!
We were pleasantly surprised, the bedding has a beautifully, silky luxurious feel.
They use the highest quality extra long-staple cotton with weaves ranging in the
300-400 thread count, and it feels fabulous.
I did not know...
that 1000 thread count sheets are actually not good!
To get 1000 thread you need to use really thin threading, and the sweet spot for duvet
covers and sheets is 400, so that explains it.

We added a vibrant green trim to give the shams a custom look and set off the
pretty green in the lumbar fabric.
Accessories for our refresh came from my go-to, Homegoods. We found the pair of tall
brass and white lamps, shell artwork, blue and white pottery, and blue ikat throw
 pillows there.

If you missed the original before and after design of this bedroom for the
One Room Challenge you might be surprised to know it was done on a budget with
Craigslist finds (nightstands, x-benches, ceiling chandelier) IKEA (drapes) and my
favorite upholstered headboard from Walmart. All sources can be found here.
Crane & Canopy is able to offer reasonably priced luxurious bedding because they
go direct to the best bedding factories, cutting out the middle man and passing the
 savings on to their customers!

One of my blogging besties, Lisa @ Shine Your Light, is also sharing a bedroom
refresh today. I know we're in for a treat, here's a peek of her teen room for you:

Thank you so much to Crane & Canopy for the invitation to try their beautiful
quality bedding, it couldn't be more perfect, and we couldn't be happier with it!
